Pollon's Weekly Round-Up

By Jack Pollon, 02/08/18, 3:15PM PST

The final two days of the regular season definitely has a lot of excitement.

Playoff berths are on the line and some teams will be in while others will be left out.

Thursday and Friday should produce plenty of drama across Southern California.

Buckley and Milken Community square off at 3:30 p.m. Thursday for second place in the Liberty League. A Buckley means the Griffins are in second place by virtue of sweeping Milken. A Milken win gives the Wildcats second place.

Holy Martyrs is the league champ. Buckley will rely on senior point guard Kanoa Johnson and improving junior forward Paul Bingaman. Milken will lean heavily on its duo of Amitai Afenjar and Aaron Harouni.

Big things going on in the Marmonte League. An Oaks Christian victory gives it second place in league and Westlake third. However, an Oaks Christian loss with a Newbury Park victory against Thousand Oaks forces a one-game Friday extra game between Oaks Christian and Newbury Park for an automatic playoff berth.

Oaks Christian has a much tougher time playing Westlake while Newbury Park is expected to beat Thousand Oaks. The stars need to step up. Oaks Christian will look to Jordan Jones and Talin Lewis with Jordan Berens shooting deep from three-point country. Newbury Park will look to Matt Solomon and seniors Daniel Foldes, Brandon Smith and Ryan Cartaino.

The Gold Coast league is pretty much wrapped up with Sierra Canyon only needing a home victory against Viewpoint for an undefeated league championship.

Other games Thursday include Windward at Crossroads, Brentwood at Paraclete and McAuliffe at Campbell Hall.

Heritage Chrsitian has an important game at Valley Christian of Cerritos. Heritage Christian needs a win to secure third place and the last automatic bid to the playoffs.

A loss would force Heritage Christian to play Whittier Christian Friday in an extra game to just qualify for the playoffs.

Heritage Christian features four freshmen, including Kyle Frelow and JR Rochelin. The Warriors are trying to avoid being just the second team not to make the playoffs one year after participating in the Open Division. Crespi accomplished the dubious feat in 2017.

Another huge game Friday has Hart at Saugus for the league championship. Can Whitten Dominguez and Tre Harrill fend off big-time sophomore Adrian McIntyre?
